This is all thanks to our amazing members who are recycling their waste with us, meaning that over 100 tonnes of waste from UK hair salons (including waste hair and salon metals) have been prevented from going to landfill.

On Nature's Side - Removing plastic from waterways.

Thanks to everyone who's switched to non-toxic, natural salon mineral disinfectant has contributed to over 3,300 plastic bottles being removed from waterways and lots less toxic cleaning products going down the drain!

The Water Fund

Thanks to our amazing Green Salon Collective members, we're pleased to share 'The Water Fund'. Through the fund, we'll be donating to support a variety of charities and organisations working to clean up oceans, rivers and any body of water from pollution and plastic-waste. Through your recycling, you'll be supporting Surfers Against Sewage, Plastic Bank and Sea Shepherd.

Giving Back

  • Giving Back to Charity

    In 2021, £7230 was raised for charity through the sale of commodities like recycled metal. 

  • Haircuts for Homeless

    In 2023, we donated 193 haircuts to Haircuts4Homeless, a charity which helps homeless people to build their self-esteem, and have someone to talk to and engage with. 

  • FoodCycle

    In 2023, we donated 1134 meals to FoodCycle, a charity which provides nutritious, vegetarian meals made from surplus foods to those who need it in the community.

  • Working with Recyclers

    To ensure that each hairdressing waste stream is converted into something useful, we work with local businesses and organisations. 

The Environment

  • Saying NO to Landfill

    So far, we've diverted over 125 tons of salon waste from landfill. We've also collected 642 KGs of waste from industry events.   

  • Recycle, Compost & Recover

    We have over 10 ways to recycle hair! We also recycle metal, plastic, paper & cardboard as well as providing composting services for food and hair salon towels. 

  • Offsetting & Regeneration

    In 2022,  we planted over 1000 trees, supported 43 different rewilding projects and co-funded a vole re-location scheme in Cornwall. 

  • Research & Development

    We want to provide even better solutions for salon waste and to help create new knowledge for our industry to be the best and the absolute greenest it can be!

Being a B-Corp

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Green Salon Collective earned an overall score of 113.7. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9, and the score required to certify is 80.

How is the score determined?

To certify as a B Corp, you are scored across the 5 areas that are listed below. It offers a holistic look at the ethics of your whole business, and its impact. 

  • Community

    Community evaluates a company’s engagement with and its impact on the communities in which it operates, hires from, and sources from.

  • Environment

    Environment evaluates a company’s overall environmental management practices as well as its impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. 

  • Customers

    Customers evaluates how well a brand takes care of their customers, through the quality of its services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels. 

  • Governance

    Governance ensures that a company includes the 'triple bottom line' of people, planet and profit into the governing documents.

  • Workers

    Workers evaluates a company’s contributions to its employees’ financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction.
