At Green Salon Collective (GSC), our mission is to raise the standard of the hair and beauty industry by enabling salons to become more ethical and sustainable environments. This vision extends not just to the salons, but to the stylists and their clients, ensuring that everyone benefits from a greener future.
We are proud to offer salons the chance to participate in a circular economy, where waste is no longer a problem but a resource. We don't just help salons recycle – we recycle our profits too! Any revenue generated from selling recyclable materials, like metal, goes straight to charities and causes that align with our values. Let’s take a closer look at the impact we've had so far and the incredible things we're doing thanks to the commitment of our members.
Over 100 Tonnes of Salon Waste Saved from Landfill
Thanks to our amazing members who have joined us in recycling their salon waste, we've managed to prevent over 100 tonnes of waste from UK hair salons from ending up in landfills. This waste includes materials like metal and even hair, which would otherwise be left to harm the environment. By working together, we’re turning waste into something positive, reducing pollution and giving materials a second life.
Reducing Plastic Waste from Salon Products
Salons that have switched to On Nature's Side, our non-toxic, natural mineral disinfectant, are making an even bigger difference than they might realise. Collectively, these salons have helped to remove over 3,300 plastic bottles from our waterways, while also reducing the amount of harmful chemicals flowing down the drain. This small change is a huge step in the right direction for a cleaner, greener planet.
Introducing 'The Water Fund'
We’re thrilled to share one of our newest initiatives: The Water Fund. Through this fund, Green Salon Collective members are helping to support a variety of charities and organisations that are focused on cleaning up our oceans, rivers, and other bodies of water from pollution and plastic waste. Your recycling efforts directly contribute to this fund, supporting incredible groups such as Surfers Against Sewage, Plastic Bank, and Sea Shepherd. Together, we are making waves in the fight against water pollution.
Giving Back to Communities in Need
At Green Salon Collective, we believe kindness goes beyond environmental efforts – it's about supporting people too. That’s why in 2023, we proudly donated 193 haircuts to Haircuts4Homeless, a charity that offers haircuts to those experiencing homelessness. These haircuts help boost self-esteem, provide comfort, and offer a moment of human connection.
We’ve also partnered with FoodCycle, donating 1,134 meals this year alone. FoodCycle takes surplus food and transforms it into nutritious, vegetarian meals for those in need within the community. It’s a simple, yet impactful way to reduce food waste and fight food poverty at the same time.
Over £42,000 Donated Since 2020
Since 2020, Green Salon Collective has donated over £42,000 to various charities, organisations, and good causes. This includes not just environmental charities, but social ones that reflect our core belief in kindness and community. We’re proud to have supported such a diverse range of important causes, all made possible through the recycling efforts of our members.
